Russell James Torrez 57 was born on December 29th 1966 to Leo James Torrez and Sonia Jean Torrez. He was the youngest of three children. On December 29 2023 he went to be with the Lord and joined: his parents, older brother Rickardo Torrez, many grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles. He grew up on a 10 acre family farm in Erie, Colorado. While growing up on a farm, he had a few animals he loved; his pet pig, dog(Prince) and horse(Tanoe). Russell loved to wear his cowboy boots and hat. Russells curiosity continued to grow for the outdoors. His parents taught him his faith, tending to the animals and farm life. He sang with the whole family, practiced horsemanship, martial arts, boxing, archery, and road motorcycles. He loved to put a bowtie on even on the farm at a young age.
In Erie he worked at the trap club, on farms, and as a handyman. Russell had a memorable and unique laugh. When he loved, he loved hard. He was sentimental and kept his dad’s pocket watch on him. Growing up with Russell, life isn't boring with him around. He adored his nieces, and was there for his niece's birth where he had made a decision that saved his sister and niece's life. Russell also cared for the elderly including his grandparents and neighbors. He had a smile on his face most of the time which drew his nieces to him. Russell shared his interests and ideas with his nieces that was precious to watch.
He graduated from Lincoln High School while living with his Godparents and cousin. Russell also was blessed with two beautiful daughters Tania Torrez, Sasha Bland and two Grandson’s Elijah and Jasper. Though his time was short in their lives we are blessed to have them in ours. Russell's passions were his family, martial arts, Native American culture and the mountains. Learning and being part of Native American culture, life and history was a vital importance to Russell. He fell in love with wolves and would say it was his spirit animal. He loved to cook and found jobs for his passion for cooking where he was able to prepare delicious meals for others. Later in life he discovered his heart for helping others that led him to start taking nursing classes but his sickness became too much and was able to finish.
Russell is beloved by daughters, grandsons, sister, nieces, cousins, aunts' uncles and friends. Russell is survived by daughters Tania Torrez and Sasha Bland; grandons Elijah Rogers and Jasper Bland, his sister Ronda Torrez, niece’s Amber Torrez, Robin Knox, and Godparents Bob and Lola Sanchez.
